Mike Tomlin Wife: Kiya Tomlin’s Career, Marriage and Family

Mike Tomlin’s wife, Kiya Tomlin, is a fashion designer and entrepreneur whose relationship with the former Pittsburgh Steelers head coach began at William & Mary. Married since May 25, 1996, the couple marked 30 years of marriage in 2026. Mike stepped down from the Steelers on January 13 after 19 seasons, while Kiya has continued building a fashion career that includes officially licensed NFL apparel.

Their story stretches back well before Pittsburgh, championship celebrations and national attention. They met as college athletes, built a family through years of coaching moves and raised three children while developing careers with very different demands.

Who Is Kiya Tomlin?

Kiya Tomlin, also known by her maiden name Kiya Winston, grew up in northern New Jersey. She graduated from Morristown High School in 1992 before attending William & Mary in Virginia.

Today, she is best known professionally for her clothing brand, which combines comfortable fabrics with designs intended for everyday use.

Her interest in making clothes started long before she considered turning it into a business. As a child, she struggled to find the styles she wanted in sizes that fit her petite frame. Sewing gave her a way to make those clothes herself.

That practical beginning eventually became a recognizable part of her approach to design. She wanted clothing that looked polished but still allowed women to move through a busy day comfortably.

Although many football fans first encounter her as Mike Tomlin’s wife, her business has its own history, customers and creative direction.

How Did Mike and Kiya Tomlin Meet?

Mike and Kiya met in the training room at William & Mary while both were recovering from sports injuries.

Mike played football, while Kiya competed in gymnastics. Their first connection developed in a setting familiar to college athletes, away from the attention that would later surround their family.

Kiya attended the university with academic and athletic scholarship support. She studied psychology while balancing the demands of collegiate gymnastics.

Mike’s future in professional coaching was still ahead of him. At that stage, they were two students working through their education and athletic commitments.

Their relationship grew, and they became engaged during the Christmas season of Kiya’s senior year. The wedding followed soon after she finished college.

It is an important part of their story: Kiya knew Mike before he became a prominent NFL coach, and their marriage began before his career had a settled direction.

When Did Mike Tomlin Marry Kiya?

Mike and Kiya married on May 25, 1996, approximately two weeks after her graduation from William & Mary.

Their early married life involved adjusting to the realities of coaching rather than immediately settling into a predictable routine.

Mike was beginning a profession that could require long hours, frequent travel and moves between schools or teams. Kiya was also considering the next stage of her own education.

Over the following years, the couple relocated as coaching opportunities developed. Their journey eventually took them to Pittsburgh in 2007, when Mike became the Steelers’ head coach.

By May 2026, they had been married for three decades. That milestone covers far more than his time leading one NFL franchise. It includes the less visible early years when both were working out what their future would look like.

Kiya Originally Wanted to Become a Surgeon

Fashion was Kiya’s creative outlet growing up, but medicine was her original career ambition.

She had imagined becoming a surgeon and prepared to take the Medical College Admission Test after college. As Mike’s coaching career developed, however, she reconsidered whether medical training was the path she wanted to follow.

In her interview with the William & Mary Alumni Magazine, Kiya explained that she had initially expected Mike to complete a master’s degree and move into a more conventional job.

The reality of coaching looked different. Its hours, travel and uncertainty made her think carefully about combining that lifestyle with the demands of becoming a doctor.

She decided against taking the exam that day, leaving open the possibility of returning to it later. According to her account, she never felt drawn back to that plan.

Her story is more nuanced than a simple claim that Mike changed her mind. Kiya described making the decision herself as she reassessed their circumstances and her own future.

Her Fashion Skills Began With a Childhood Sewing Machine

Kiya’s design experience started when she was about 10 years old and asked for a sewing machine.

With help from her mother, she learned how to use it and began making clothing. By middle school, sewing had become a regular part of how she put together her wardrobe.

The interest continued at university. Alongside classes and gymnastics, she made custom outfits for fellow students.

Those early projects gave her years of practical experience before she launched a formal brand. They also showed that other people were willing to trust her with clothing for important occasions.

Later, while the couple lived in Cincinnati, Kiya studied fashion design at the University of Cincinnati. The training helped her develop technical skills beyond the methods she had taught herself.

That education became another step in turning a longstanding ability into professional work.

How Did Kiya Tomlin Start Her Fashion Brand?

Kiya launched her namesake fashion brand in 2014.

The idea behind one of its defining pieces came from an ordinary observation about Mike’s routine. Coaching clothes gave him a simple, practical wardrobe that required very little thought each morning.

Kiya wanted something similarly useful for herself, but suitable for different parts of her day.

She developed a signature dress that could work with casual shoes for errands or be dressed up with accessories for an evening out. Comfort and versatility were central to the idea.

Other people noticed the dress and asked about it. What began as a solution for her own wardrobe helped establish the direction of her brand.

Kiya’s business grew from years of sewing, custom work and formal training. Its launch in 2014 was the start of the label, rather than the beginning of her experience as a designer.

Her Business Expanded Into NFL Fashion

Kiya’s connection to football eventually became part of her professional work, too.

In 2021, her brand expanded to include officially licensed NFL apparel. It gave her a way to apply her design approach to clothing for fans.

Her business also developed a retail and production presence in Etna, Pennsylvania. Bringing those functions together allowed customers to see more of the work involved in creating the garments.

That hands-on side of the business has been important to her public story. Designing, cutting, sewing and selling are all part of the process behind the finished clothing.

Mike has repeatedly promoted her work on social media, including her designs for the Steelers Style fashion show.

The support has therefore gone both ways. Kiya has attended football events throughout his career, while Mike has publicly celebrated her accomplishments as an entrepreneur.

They Have Three Children

Mike and Kiya are parents to two sons, Dino and Mason, who also uses the name Mayce, and a daughter, Harlyn, known as Harley.

Their children have pursued interests that include sports, music and creative work.

Dino played college football at Boston College. Kiya celebrated his graduation in May 2024 and praised the dedication he had shown along the way.

Mayce graduated from Columbia University in May 2024 and has pursued music. Mike later shared a video of him performing, expressing pride in the preparation behind the appearance.

Harley followed a path especially familiar to Kiya by pursuing gymnastics. The University of Georgia announced her signing with its gymnastics program in November 2023.

The different names used in family profiles can cause confusion, but Mason and Mayce refer to the same son. Harlyn and Harley likewise refer to their daughter.

Kiya Was Not Always a Football Fan

Despite spending much of her adult life around coaching, Kiya has said she did not initially understand football.

During an October 2025 interview, she explained that she had not grown up watching the sport closely. Although she had cheered for Little League football, that did not mean she understood what was happening during games.

It is a relatable detail in a family so closely associated with the NFL.

Her relationship with Mike came first. The deeper familiarity with football developed afterward as his work became a major part of their shared life.

That background also helps explain why her public identity extends beyond game days. Athletics shaped her own college experience, but fashion became the field where she built her professional career.

Their Partnership Extends Beyond the Sideline

Mike’s January 2026 departure from the Steelers ended a major professional chapter, but the couple’s shared history reaches much further back.

They married before his NFL career, moved through the early coaching years together and established a family in Pittsburgh. Along the way, Kiya developed a business grounded in an interest she had carried since childhood.

Mike Tomlin’s wife is therefore part of his football story and an accomplished designer in her own right. After 30 years of marriage, their public record reflects a partnership that includes parenting, career changes and support for each other’s work.

Research note, separate from the article: Mike’s January 2026 departure was confirmed in NFL reporting. William & Mary’s alumni profile documents their college relationship and Kiya’s career development; Steelers coverage confirms her brand’s NFL expansion.
